I believe in unlocking value where it is hidden. Anime, manga, and video games are my passion. And if I’m not trying something new with these, I’m probably not unlocking my own value!
Currently, I lead business development, strategy, and corporate development at VIZ Media in San Francisco. There, I serve as a change agent to drive our overall innovation and transformation. As part of this, I have led investments into Kitsu, a social network for anime fans, as well as other unannounced projects.
In addition to my day job, I have my own production entity, Henshin, where I’m working on two Japanese anime feature-length films: Klonoa (based on BANDAI NAMCO’s video game) and an untitled original film project.
Previously, I served as U.S. CEO and Global CSO of Viewster, where I led the company to top positions in the U.K. and Germany in anime streaming and later launched OMAKASE, a merchandise and video subscription service.
Prior to that, I was part of the Network Strategy Office at the Tokyo headquarters of BANDAI NAMCO, where I helped drive digital strategy and later started ShiftyLook, an initiative to re-imagine classic video games with webcomics, web animation, and online games.
Before that, I revolutionized the anime industry by conceiving of and crafting the economics of Crunchyroll’s subscription video on demand (SVOD) ecosystem, and led efforts with Japanese content suppliers to transform the company into a leader in the space. To this day, much of what I built has proven pervasive and ended up in all corners of the business.
All this builds off Capcom, where I got my start on the business side of Japanese media, and developed the hands-on approach to change that I still use today.
Outside of work, I’m active in the Producers Guild of America, involved with the Weekend Shorts Committee, International Committee, and Education Committee Northwest, and help plan our events in NorCal. I’m also a professional member of ASIFA-Hollywood.
I enjoy creating new business models and finding new ways for anime to reach a wider audience. I also like making anime, too!
I'm a big fan of all comics, from Japanese manga to Western webcomics to American comic books. I'm excited about the new innovations to come!
I've mainly focused on the intellectual property side of gaming, turning my favorite (if not obscure) characters into animation.
